This project provides training to raise awareness among youth workers about the mechanisms behind the creation of stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination, in order to recognize these personal mechanisms and use them as useful tools in personal and professional life.<\/p>\n

We arrived at 2100 and were briefed about the logistics.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0We discussed how to distinguish pseudo-science from real science when it comes to deciding on a way forward with regard to things like climate change. We also delved into the importance of having a set of guiding underlying values, like the fact that each person and sentient being on Earth is entitled to a good quality of life.<\/span><\/p>\n We discussed things such as how computer algorithms used in social media can nudge society towards certain directions, ethical dilemmas in the pharmaceutical industry.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n We discussed how different cultures might see things differently and held debates on topics like climate change, with on emphasis on the importance on listening to what people with different views have to say. The realization that some people are just more lucky than others in terms of where they were born clearly hit home in the minds of some participants. It’s obvious when you think about it but feeling something is perhaps different than merely knowing it as fact.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n This day was what’s referred to as “cultural day” in such programmes. We visited nearby castles with the most impressive being Peles Castle, boasting an innovative ventilation system. The area is very picturesque.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n We split up in teams tried to come up with a list of potential solutions to ethical dilemmas (past and present) and how things could perhaps have been done differently in some instances.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Each team gave a short presentation of what the key takeways of the seminar were for them. The rest of the day was spent roaming around the city and putting in any remaining paperwork, after which we started our journey back to Malta.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n
