This helps ensure that a person\u2019s values and wishes remain respected, even in the most difficult circumstances.\ud83e\udded From a humanist perspective, the principle is clear: every competent adult has the right to make informed decisions about their own body and medical care. The Government is now returning to a subject - on which no progress had been made since 2020 - with forthcoming proposals for legislation including the establishment of a Human Rights and Equality Commission in line with EU law.
