Humanists do not hold religious beliefs, and thus often disagree with those who have a faith, and with the actions (or inaction) of religious organisations, now or in the past. Nevertheless, we welcome instances when the teachings of a religious leader chime with the principles of humanism. While in Malta, the pope\u2019s messages to his Catholic followers included some strong words on cohesion, legality, honesty and social justice \u2013 and on the treatment of migrants, corruption, greed and speculative construction. We hope that those who regard the pope as their spiritual leader will take his words to heart. For our part, those of us who strive to live by humanist values will continue working towards a just society, offering, where possible, co-operation and collaboration in the pursuit of mutual goals.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
