🇵🇸 Today, civil society made its message clear.As Malta’s Parliament prepared for its opening session, Humanists Malta joined 21 other NGOs in endorsing the letter **Stop Complicity With Israel** — a call for Malta’s political leadership to act with urgency and humanity.Following Malta’s recognition of the State of Palestine, the next step must be consistency: recognition should not remain symbolic while trade, transfers, or military items risk contributing to the denial of Palestinian rights in the form of ethnic cleansing, illegal settlement activity, genocide, apartheid and dispossession.The letter calls for an immediate embargo on military items to Israel, and for a comprehensive reduction in trade and transfers that may contribute to complicity in violations of Palestinian rights.For Humanists Malta, this is about a basic principle: human dignity has no borders. International law must mean something. 🇵🇸 Humanists Malta stands for justice in Palestine.Humanists Malta is proud to endorse the civil society letter **Stop Complicity With Israel**, together with 21 other NGOs.📍 From 3:30pm on Monday 5 October, before the opening session of Malta’s Parliament, each parliamentarian will be handed a letter calling for concrete action from Malta’s political leadership.The letter calls for an immediate embargo on military items to Israel, as well as a comprehensive reduction in trade and transfers that may contribute to complicity in Israel’s violations of Palestinian human rights, genocide, apartheid, ethnic cleansing, and illegal occupations.For Humanists Malta, this is a matter of human dignity, international law, and moral responsibility. There has been a lot of discussion recently about whether Malta needs to become a more secular state, and whether our Constitution should be updated to better reflect the Malta of today.Humanists Malta has been advocating for these changes for several years, and we want to share our position.A secular state is not a state against religion. It is a state that takes no side.It protects everyone’s right to believe, to change their beliefs, or to have no religious belief at all, while ensuring that everyone is treated equally by the state.The Catholic Church, like any other religious or civil society organisation, has every right to speak, teach and contribute to public life. But in a modern, pluralistic democracy, no single religion should hold a privileged place in the country’s supreme law.Malta today is home to people of many different beliefs, as well as many people with no religion. A secular Constitution would be a Constitution that belongs equally to all of us.For Humanists Malta, this is an important part of continuing to build a more tolerant, peaceful and inclusive society in which everyone can feel that they belong.Read our full position here:

Humanists Malta is in Berlin this week for the *European Humanist Services Network (EHSN) Working Seminar*, taking place on 16 and 17 September at the Humanistische Hochschule Berlin. humanistservices.eu/Our Chairperson is representing Humanists Malta alongside humanist organisations from across Europe, sharing experiences, learning from one another and exploring how we can strengthen the services and impact of our organisations.For Humanists Malta, a key focus during this seminar is *fundraising and organisational sustainability*.
